The Opening Title Sequence

Aside from (conventionally) presenting the title, main cast members and important individuals from the production team, the opening title sequence is a good oppotunity to establish vital characters, set the mood for what is to follow and create a visually exciting or interesting peice of cinamatography.
Up until the 1970's, the opening title sequence usually proceeded the opening credits which were shown sepearatly, containing the names of all who worked on the film due to the end credits only listing a reprise of cast members. As a result, the duration of the opening credits were consdierably longer than those usually seen in the films of today and could actually be similarly compared to the end credits of the films of today.
